THE 52ND WILLIAM COHN LECTURE
With Dr Scott Redford Nasser D Khalili Professor of Islamic Art and Archaeology School of Oriental and African Studies University of London
In the west, the collecting of Islamic ceramics has traditionally taken a back seat to east Asian ceramics. Why is this so?
This lecture explores the roles played the dealers, collectors, and museums in creating a body of material known as “Islamic ceramics.”
What constitutes this body, and how did it come to be? How might it have been different?
