Join Asian art specialist Ashley Innes (née Crawford) for a curated walking tour titled ‘An Exploration of Antique Chinese Decorative Arts’.
This walking tour will be themed around Chinese antique decorative art objects, focusing on Susan Page’s snuff bottles and Slaats Fine Art’s cloisonné and scholar’s objects. The tour will explore the relationship between these media and demonstrate how the objects challenge Western categorizations of ‘fine art’ vs ‘decorative art’, which often become arbitrary in the context of Asian antiques. What does it mean for an item to be ‘decorative’? Can an item be considered both decorative and fine art? How does each culture approach these questions historically and today?
The curated tour will begin at 11 am on Monday 3rd November at Susan Page’s exhibition in Conduit Street Gallery, Ground Floor, Sotheby’s, 34-35 New Bond St, London, W1A 2AA.
The tour is expected to last approximately 45 minutes.
The tour is limited to 15 people, and spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please specify ‘Ashley Innes Curated Tour’ when you RSVP via email for this event.
