LACQUER AND STONE-INLAID SQUARE DISH
CHINA, QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY
10.6 cm wide
The small square dish with indented corners is delicately inlaid in the interior with various colourful stones, amber and mother-of-pearl to depict a spray of blooming peonies growing from rocks. A purple beetle sits on top of one of the flowers. The grass and flower stems are painted in green and brown. The dish is lacquered black and supported on four shallow feet.
