AstaGuru and ICIA presents, Shifting Ground, the first solo exhibition of artist Tom Vattakuzhy in London, as part of Asian Art in London.
The ground beneath us is never as certain as it seems. It shifts not only in the world around us, but in the ways we experience time, memory, relationships and our place within the world. In Vattakuzhy’s paintings, this instability manifests itself in the most ordinary spaces of life. Nothing appears to have entirely broken, yet nothing seems entirely capable of holding.
The personal becomes inseparable from the historical; the intimate from the political. What takes place beyond the home is already present within it.
