Zhi Zhi Arts Club
Zhi Zhi Arts Club is a private gallery specialising in Chinese paintings, pottery and porcelains, and bronze ware from the Neolithic period through to the 20th Century. Exhibiting the collection of the owner, the gallery is dedicated to being a place of meeting for Chinese art collectors. Zhi Zhi (‘知止’in Chinese), which literally means ‘know and stop’, comes from the Great Learning, or Daxue, one of the ‘Four Books’ in Confucianism. The owner hopes that the arts club would enable more people to take a break in this fast-paced world and appreciate art.

Current Exhibition: Modern Chinese Paintings
Since mid-19th Century, under the influence of the West, Chinese painters created a new visual language that embodies aspects of traditional Chinese art while responding to a time of great transition. Their artworks express personal beliefs, national pride, and international awareness. Other external force, including the 4th May Movement in 1919, enabled Chinese paintings to change from imitating ancient paintings and free themselves from the dominating appreciation of traditional literati painting. This exhibition includes the works by artists including Pu Ru, Chen Shaomei, Xu Beihong, Chen Zhifo, Zhang Shuqi. From these works we can see that innovation of classical Chinese paintings within its own category had become the main idea of modern Chinese paintings.
