The lacquered panel applied with a mountainous landscape in ivory, with figures in a pavilion, farmers in the field, or fishermen on a boat, the reverse similarly decorated, surrounded by a diapered border, the stand carved with taotie masks and stylised phoenixes surrounded by archaic scrolls, flanked by two vases to each side, on a rectangular plinth with ruyi-shaped feet, 54.5cm wide, 20.5cm deep, 64cm high

Painted and incised with a green and aubergine five-clawed dragon encircling a flaming pearl amongst stylised clouds and flames against a yellow ground, the underside with fruiting vine, six-character Guangxu mark to base, 13.2cm diameter
Provenance: Formerly in a private European collection.

Of lobed form, the centre painted with a bouquet of blossoming peony, magnolia and finger citrons, enclosed within a border of scrolling foliage, the sides with further flower and fruit sprays in shaped panels between stylised block foliate scrolls, the reverse similarly decorated, 62.7cm diameter

清十八世纪 铜胎画珐琅花果纹花口大盘
After 1911, of 'Yuan Shikai roundels', each embroidered with the symbols of sovereignty, including the fu surrounded by libation cups, fire, a constellation, a dragon, a mountain, a pheasant, an axe or a water weed, amongst clouds against a black satin ground, 20 to 21cm diameter, framed and glazed (4)
After he became the first President of the Chinese Republic in 1912, Yuan Shikai had a desire to emulate the old Imperial ranking system. These roundels were made to be worn by officials during the traditional seasonal sacrifices he reinstated. The lower the status of the official, the fewer roundels on his robe, and the fewer traditional symbols of Imperial authority included in the roundel, with twelve being the highest number for roundels and symbols.
